What is a Jubilee? These Catholics just became the first LGBTQ+ people to participate
"It is necessary to get rid of prejudices,"
"No one must feel excluded. I insist, no one should feel excluded."
"all who are interested to help LGBT people and their families feel welcome in their Church, but also to foster in our Christian communities listening and to get to know each other."
Over 1,300 LGBTQ+ people and their families crossed through the Holy Door of St. Peter during Jubilee events, carrying a rainbow crucifix and wearing shirts with rainbow hearts. The pilgrimage was organized by La Tenda di Gionata, an Italian association that arranges pastoral events for LGBTQ+ Christians and their families to feel welcome and to foster listening in Christian communities. Monsignor Francesco Savino called for the removal of prejudices and insisted that no one should feel excluded. Jubilees are celebratory years of remission and universal pardons that typically involve pilgrimages to sacred sites and passing through Holy Doors.
