Virginia Democrat who praised LGBTQ+ inclusion is now helping Republicans out trans kids
Rep. Eugene Vindman praised a gay farming couple as evidence that LGBTQ+ people belong everywhere in his district. Shortly afterward, he voted for H.R. 2616, the “Stopping Indoctrination and Protecting Kids Act,” which critics call a “Don’t Say LGBTQ+” bill. The measure would require schools to notify parents before affirming a transgender student’s identity and would restrict federally funded schools from teaching what Republicans describe as “gender ideology.” Vindman voted for the bill alongside seven other Democrats. Several of those Democrats are members of the Congressional Equality Caucus. LGBTQ+ advocates in Virginia reacted strongly because Vindman had recently emphasized visibility and acceptance while discussing the “Gardening Gays” in rural King George County.
