The National Park Service removed references to transgender and bisexual people from the Stonewall National Monument website earlier this year. Seventy-two House Democrats led by Dan Goldman, Mark Takano, and Ritchie Torres demanded that Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and Acting NPS Director Jessica Bowron reverse the changes. The lawmakers denounced an administration effort to rewrite history across national parks and warned that similar edits are appearing in official interpretations of Japanese American incarceration, Native American massacres, and slavery. The lawmakers said Stonewall history cannot be told without transgender stories and said the erasure undermines Park Service credibility and the ideals of equality and justice. Goldman called the revisions shameful, saying deletion demeans humanity and attempts to rewrite science, history, and truth.
