This is why Chappell Roan has been doing so many live shows - and we're grateful
"I wasn't gonna do a US tour until the very last minute. I decided to do one and I'm so glad I did. Thank you for making it awesome."
"I always felt: 'Why am I putting myself through this? What is this for?' Then I started doing shows again and it all made sense, it was to bring queer people joy and tell them that it's OK."
"There [are] so many things in the world that are so 'f**k you', then there is this. The only thing that matters anymore is joy, protecting that, and peace and safety. So, I hope you know that when you are here, you are safe, and I want you here."
Chappell Roan returned to live performances to give queer audiences an evening of joy, peace and safety. She made several major touring appearances this year and chose to mount a US tour at the last minute. Roan emphasized that the purpose of performing was to tell queer people that it is OK and to protect joy amid a hostile world. Acoustic chords from "Kaleidoscope" underscored her remarks. Profits from pop-up shows in New York, Kansas City and Los Angeles were donated to trans charities. Roan is now in early stages of recording a follow-up album to The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.
