Swimmer banned for refusing gender test to protect 'intimate medical information'
"if the suspension is the price she has to pay to "protect my most intimate medical information" then she is "happy to pay"."
"documents the swimmer submitted all demonstrate that she was assigned the female sex at birth and that she identifies as female, although she swam in the male category at USMS events 2002-2004"
"labelled Masters Swimming's policies "insane" and said it "cowered to radical activists pushing gender warfare"."
"My life and privacy have been invaded enough"
Hannah Caldas received a five-year ban from World Aquatics for refusing to undergo a gender-verification test. World Aquatics disqualified her results from June 2022 to October 2024. Caldas won her age-group 100m freestyle at the 2024 World Aquatics Masters Championships in Doha and claimed several titles at US Masters Swimming Spring Nationals in San Antonio. USMS later declared her eligible in the female category, with a report stating submitted documents show she was assigned female at birth and identifies as female despite competing in the male category in 2002–2004. Texas governor Ken Paxton opened an investigation and sued USMS over trans participation, seeking fines and criticizing the organisation's policies. Caldas said chromosomal tests are invasive and expensive, that her insurance refused coverage, and that she declined testing to protect her medical privacy.
