Shia LaBeouf says he's scared of 'big gay people' following battery arrest
"When I'm standing by myself and three gay dudes are next to me, touching my leg, I get scared. I'm sorry. If that's homophobic then I'm that. I was drunk and then I felt infringed upon in terms of my proximity. But I wasn't in my right mind, and so it's on me."
"I said words not OK to say. I don't want to hurt nobody's feelings... I'm wrong for what I did. I am wrong for touching anyone. Ever. And that's the end of my statement on this whole s***."
"I'm good with gay - be gay over there, though. Don't be gay in my lap."
Shia LaBeouf was arrested during Mardi Gras celebrations on February 18 on suspicion of two counts of simple battery. Two victims subsequently claimed he directed homophobic slurs at them before the alleged assault. In a Channel 5 interview published February 28, LaBeouf attempted to justify his language by stating that groups of gay men make him feel scared. He acknowledged using offensive words he shouldn't have said and admitted to feeling intoxicated during the incident. LaBeouf claimed he felt his personal space was infringed upon, taking responsibility for his actions while suggesting discomfort with gay people being in close proximity to him.
