Kent County Council has removed trans-focused literature from children's areas in libraries, stating it is to protect young readers. The decision was made under the leadership of Linden Kemkaran following Reform UK's control. The council affirmed that children will not access adult transgender literature in libraries. Staff members have been instructed to stock age-appropriate material and to avoid adult literature in children's spaces. This action faced backlash from authors and the LGBTQ+ community, which raised concerns about censorship and access to diverse perspectives.
KCC has confirmed that children are not and will not be exposed to adult transgender literature in our libraries. Staff at the county's 99 libraries have been asked to ensure that books are always stocked in age-appropriate categories.
Another victory for #commonsenseinKent, my brilliant cabinet member councillor Paul Webb has just got this trans material removed from the children's sections of all Kent's libraries. Telling children they're in the 'wrong body' is wrong and simply unacceptable.
