Queer Love Island star apologises for racial slurs
Briefly

Cierra Ortega, a contestant on Love Island USA, apologized for using racial slurs towards Asian individuals in her social media posts. After being removed from season seven for this behavior, she released a video expressing regret and acknowledging her ignorance. Ortega emphasized that her intent was never harmful but recognized that ignorance does not excuse such actions. She committed to educating herself and conveyed heartfelt apologies to the Asian community, reflecting on the magic of her experience in the villa while accepting the consequences of her mistake.
I am deeply, truly, honestly, so sorry. I had no idea that the word held as much pain, as much harm, and came with the history that it did... or I never would have used it. I had no ill-intention when I was using it. That's absolutely no excuse because intent doesn't excuse ignorance.
But this is not an apology video, this is an accountability video. I have gone on to educate myself.
I'm someone tripping to spread love and light, even when I get it wrong, and I hope my actions from here speak louder than this mistake ever did. Once again, to the Asian community, I am deeply sorry for my thoughtless mistake and the harm it caused.
While I'm heart-broken my journey had to be cut short, I understand that mistakes, especially ones like this, deserve consequences.
