Oakland Pride Dissolves Its Board And Goes Kaput, New Oakland Pride Will Be Mid-August

"When I took over as president of the pride board, there were major issues that I had to handle including problems with the Department of Justice (DOJ), vendors who had not been paid for years, and poor financial record keeping. Although we were able to resolve those issues, years of improper use of credit cards badly damaged Oakland Pride's ability to access any lines of credit, making it difficult to produce Pride.""

Oakland Pride has undergone a leadership change and its 2026 parade and party have been rescheduled to Sunday, August 16, 2026. The event will be managed and operated by the Oakland LGBTQ Community Center instead of the prior Oakland Pride board. Incoming leadership reported major problems including Department of Justice involvement, vendors unpaid for years, and poor financial record keeping. Years of improper credit card use damaged access to lines of credit and hindered event production. As of Tuesday morning the organization's website was not functioning, and organizers describe the transition as a work in progress.
