Jason Collins is undergoing treatment for a brain tumour, his family said in a statement released by the NBA. Collins and his family welcome support and prayers and have asked for privacy as they focus on his health and well-being. The Brooklyn Nets posted a message of love and support on social media. Collins retired in 2014 after coming out publicly as gay in April 2013 and described the ensuing period as '18 exhilarating months.' He married longtime partner Brunson Green in May in Austin, Texas. Collins began his NBA career with the New Jersey Nets in 2001 and played for multiple teams before retiring. In 2021 he spoke about the supportive words President Barack Obama offered after he came out.
