Models flaunt looks made from wool of gay sheep for epic "I Wool Survive" show in Paris - LGBTQ Nation
"the sheep are killed for being gay,"
"a metaphor for how gay people are treated across the world."
"The gay sheep get discarded, get forgotten, are seen as not valuable,"
"But through them, two people who would never otherwise have met, a German sheep farmer and a Los Angeles designer, got connected and together created something beautiful."
A Paris runway show presented garments knitted exclusively from wool sourced from rams that do not mate with ewes. About one in 12 rams shows no interest in mating with ewes, and farms producing fashion wool often send those male-oriented sheep to slaughter. Michael Schmidt partnered with Rainbow Wool and Grindr to create the I Wool Survive collection to spotlight rescued gay sheep and their fate. The runway featured gay male archetypes as models and leaned on sexiness and humor to attract attention. Designers knitted the collection using wool rescued and cultivated by the nonprofit farmer.
