London council faces legal action after installing road crossing in colours of transgender pride flag
Briefly

A Camden resident, Blessing Olubanjo, threatens to sue the borough over four zebra crossings painted in the colors of the transgender flag. Installed in Bloomsbury in November 2021 to celebrate transgender awareness, Olubanjo argues that the crossings violate political neutrality rules. She claims the crossings send an exclusionary message and infringe on her freedom of belief and expression. With support from the Christian Legal Centre, Olubanjo asserts these crossings violate the Local Government Act and should be removed or redesigned to accommodate all community members.
I brought this case because I believe in fairness, freedom of belief, and the proper role of public institutions. As a Christian and a taxpayer, I should not be made to feel excluded or marginalised by political symbols in public spaces.
The crossing is a visual endorsement of a contested ideology, installed by a public authority in breach of its legal duties. This is not the role of local government.
