"It's really important to have a museum like this because we are the only museum of its kind in the UK and only one of 10 in the entire world,"
"What we like is for members of the community to tell their own story, not for us to tell it on their behalf."
"Absolutely, because while Justin was playing, there was nothing like this at all. "And I think if he'd had the support of groups like this, I think he would have had a very different experience.""
Queer Britain is the UK's only dedicated LGBTQ+ museum, based in King's Cross, London, founded in 2022 and reopened after refurbishment for LGBTQ+ History Month. The museum spotlights figures who shaped community history alongside cultural spaces and memorials. Exhibits include a display for footballer Justin Fashanu with a Norwich City LGBT+ supporters' group banner, a panel from the UK Aids Memorial Quilt remembering those who died, and an exhibit dedicated to Club Kali documenting three decades of South Asian LGBTQ+ nightlife through photographs and distinctive outfits. The museum emphasizes community self-representation and diverse cultural celebration.
