ITV's This Morning star resigns as Girlguiding ambassador due to trans ban
"Continuing her allyship, James took to Instagram on Wednesday (3 December) to share a statement that explained she is "devastated" by the organisation's decision to exclude trans girls. "I am truly heartbroken for the trans community" She continued: "Some of those girls and their families have now found themselves caught in the crossfire of culture wars they never asked to be part of."
""I am truly heartbroken for the trans community who simply want to live their lives, be included, and have access to safe, supportive spaces. Trans girls experience the same threats as other women and girls - they are not a threat to us. They are our sisters". She added that she will be stepping down from her ambassador role with "immediate effect" and will continue to stand with her "trans sisters today and always"."
Girlguiding announced a decision on 2 December to ban trans girls from its Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers groups, citing the April 2025 Supreme Court ruling on the legal definition of sex. The ban does not affect trans boys, who can still join those groups. The decision prompted swift condemnation and a petition that gathered thousands of signatures. ITV's This Morning star Ashley James resigned as a Girlguiding ambassador in response, describing herself as devastated and heartbroken for trans girls and families, and said she would step down with immediate effect while continuing to support inclusion.
