"It's unfortunate that I wasn't able to do the role": Onya Nurve finally spills the tea on her abrupt exit from Kinky Boots - Queerty
"On behalf of Kinky Boots on Tour, Justin Woody ("Onya Nurve") is no longer with the company. We are thrilled to share that Omari Collins ("Scarlett D. Von'Du") will step into the role of Lola. We wish Justin well, and we look forward to bringing Kinky Boots to theatres all across the country."
"It's unfortunate that I wasn't able to open as Lola or do the role. It had nothing to do with my talent or my behavior," she said. "Ultimately, we weren't aligning artistically. It was a better fit for them to move on without me. The cast is so talented. If you have the opportunity to see the show, I would definitely go see it."
"On a positive note, I was able to learn the role of Lola and do an amazing job at it. Unfortunately, the world didn't get to see it, but let me tell you this... if it ever goes back on Broadway, I'm going to be the first one to audition! I bet you I'll get the role, because I am what?! Sickening, bitch!"
Justin Woody (Onya Nurve), winner of RuPaul's Drag Race season 17, was cast as drag queen Lola for the North American Kinky Boots tour but was removed before the tour opened and replaced by understudy Omari Collins (Scarlett D. Von'Du). Producers announced the change and extended well wishes. Woody explained the departure resulted from artistic misalignment rather than issues of talent or behavior and noted she learned the role and performed it in rehearsal but did not debut. Woody encouraged audiences to see the show, expressed pride in her work, and said she intends to audition if the production returns to Broadway.
