An independent cinema has acquired the "Third Toilet" installation, symbolizing a protest against transphobia in the UK. This installation was first displayed outside the Supreme Court in response to a controversial ruling interpreting the 2010 Equality Act's definition of sex. The ruling suggested that trans individuals be restricted from using facilities aligned with their gender identity. The installation is now housed at the Watershed cinema in Bristol, where it will be on display until 10 July, culminating in an event celebrating inclusivity for trans and non-binary individuals.
The "Third Toilet" installation, adorned with the trans Pride flag colours, aims to protest against the recent ruling on trans rights and redefine inclusion.
Watershed’s CEO emphasized that inclusion is "built into the walls" of the cinema, reflecting an ongoing commitment to support trans rights.
The temporary exhibit will conclude with a Safe Space Bristol Summer Drinks Party, providing free drinks for trans and non-binary guests.
The installation was initially placed at the Supreme Court in May as a protest against the ruling regarding the definition of sex in the Equality Act.
