"History-making Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) star Dónal Óg Cusack has announced his engagement to his long-term boyfriend. Cusack came out as gay in 2009 in his autobiography "Come What May". His coming out saw him become Ireland's first openly gay elite sportsman. Throughout his career Cusack won three All-Ireland medals, five Munster medals and two All-Star awards. The former Irish hurling goalkeeper, who made 54 championship appearances for Cork, more than any other goalkeeper in Ireland's history, has been dating Nathan Adams for more than a decade."
""I tried to go out with women to make sure, to see what kind of feeling it gave me. I went out with nice women and good women, but sure, I still knew. I wanted something else. I get more out of men. I just do. Always have. I know I am different but just in this way. Whatever you may feel about me or who I am, I've always been at peace with it.""
Dónal Óg Cusack, a decorated former Cork hurling goalkeeper, announced his engagement to long-term partner Nathan Adams on 25 December. Cusack won three All-Ireland medals, five Munster medals and two All-Star awards, and made 54 championship appearances for Cork. Nathan Adams is a model-turned-influencer who competes in HYROX, an indoor competition combining running and functional workout stations. Cusack publicly came out in 2009 and described his earlier relationships with both men and women.
