Gay elder dies after brutal assault outside queer nightclub - LGBTQ Nation
""He calls my dad weird," Prasad's daughter, Andrea, told KXTV in December. "He says it in a very rude, aggressive way... like he wants to hurt my dad.""
""He's lying flat on his back, and he's, for lack of a better expression, he's breathing like a fish out of water," family friend Jonathon Wisinski said. "He seemed like he was seizing up. Before I rolled him, I noticed that he was bleeding from the back of his head.""
""The Sacramento County District Attorney's Office takes every hate crime seriously, including those targeting members of our LGBTQ+ community," the office told USA Today."
Alvin Prasad, 58, was assaulted after leaving a nightclub in Sacramento's Lavender Heights while wearing an elaborate costume on Halloween night. A man insulted his outfit, then punched him in the forehead, causing Prasad to fall and strike his head on the pavement. Bystanders observed severe breathing difficulties and bleeding, and Prasad was hospitalized in a coma. He died on December 28 from his injuries. The alleged attacker, 25-year-old Sean Wesley Payton Jr., faced felony assault charges with a hate crime and great bodily injury allegation and now faces homicide charges. A GoFundMe organized by Prasad's daughter supported medical expenses.
