""Support for nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ Americans and same-sex marriage remains high, including among most people of faith," said Melissa Deckman, CEO of the research nonprofit."
""There is a disconnect among many Americans with respect to upholding the broad principle of non-discrimination protections for transgender Americans and growing support for bathroom bills," Deckman said."
""Yet such an increase nationally for bathroom bills is largely a function of strong movement among Republicans.""
A recent survey indicates that only 70% of Americans aged 18 to 29 support nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ+ individuals, down from 80% in 2015. This decline is primarily attributed to reduced support from young Republicans. Despite the overall decrease, a majority of Americans still favor same-sex marriage and non-discrimination policies. However, only 40% support the right to use bathrooms aligning with gender identity. Younger Americans are more likely to identify as LGBTQ+, with 20% of those aged 18 to 29 identifying as such.
