"We know Grindr is widely used by many LGBT+ people, not only for dating, but also for community, connection, and mutual support - particularly for people who may feel otherwise isolated."
Rahmat Khan Mohammadi, 22, and Mohammed Bilal Hotak, 21, were found guilty of burglary, fraud and theft and sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court, receiving five and three-and-a-half year prison terms respectively. The pair were part of an organised crime group responsible for 35 burglaries and 20 related frauds between October 2024 and March this year, targeting 22 people. They used Grindr to initiate contact, gained entry to homes, persuaded victims to unlock phones and disclose passwords, and used stolen data to move money, withdraw cash and make payments. The crimes caused lasting trauma and prompted renewed commitments to community safety; Grindr remains widely used for dating and mutual support, particularly by isolated LGBT+ people.
