Denver LGBTQ+ youth center closed indefinitely after burglar steals nearly $10K
"Not only are we an LGBTQ organization, but we also focus on LGBTQ youth of color, and we don't have a lot of resources within our state and within the nation,"
"I keep going back and forth with a lot of sadness, a lot of anger, disappointment, and also just having a lot of clarity on where we are in the world right now."
"We want to make sure that if we are welcoming people in, that it is safe, and at this point, it's not,"
"So if people can give, that is awesome. Anything helps at this point."
YouthSeen, a nonprofit providing mental health and wellness services to queer youth across 10 states, closed its Denver office indefinitely after a weekend burglary. The stolen safe contained nearly $10,000, an iPad, and vehicle keys and registration. Security footage identified 58-year-old Stephen Guerra, who was found in a stolen Toyota RAV4 with damaged empty cash boxes and is held on second-degree burglary charges. YouthSeen will pause in-person services in the area, continue primarily online services soon, and does not plan to reopen or expand a physical location for the foreseeable future. The organization is requesting donations via youthseen.org.
