Critics say Hungary's LGBTQ+ event ban 'humiliates' the trans community
Briefly

On April 14, Hungary's parliament passed a constitutional amendment effectively banning Pride marches and other LGBTQ+ public events. Backed by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's Fidesz-KDNP coalition, the amendment has raised concerns among advocates, who argue it serves as a distraction from pressing national issues while targeting marginalized communities. Critics assert the law's justification of 'protecting children' is merely propaganda aimed at humiliating LGBTQ+ individuals. The amendment allows police measures, including facial recognition to monitor events, and has drawn protest responses from both local advocacy groups and international embassies.
The amendment claims that Pride and LGBTQ+ public events could be considered "harmful to children" and bans the "depiction or promotion" of homosexuality to youth under 18.
This whole endeavor which we see launched by the government, it has nothing to do with children's rights... it is definitely and purely and strictly about humiliating people.
Budapest Pride, one of the LGBTQ+ organisations affected by the bill, said in a statement... this is fascism.
Prime minister Viktor Orbán praised the amendment on social media, stating, "We won't let woke ideology endanger our kids."
