"After ending her participation in any women's athletic programs covered by House Bill 500 to prioritize finishing her degree at Boise State and her personal safety and wellness, Lindsay has withdrawn her challenge to Idaho's HB 500,"
"In West Virginia v. B.P.J., the court will address a challenge to a nearly identical law. We will continue to advocate for the rights of all women and girls, including transgender women and girls,"
Lindsay Hecox sued Idaho officials in 2020 after a law barred transgender women from participating in female sports and prevented her from trying out for Boise State's track team. Idaho was the first state to enact such a ban. A U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit blocked enforcement of the law. Hecox withdrew her challenge to prioritize finishing her degree and her personal safety and wellness. The ACLU supported the challenge and said other cases will continue to address the constitutionality of trans sports bans, including an ongoing case in West Virginia.
