Los Angeles recorded 1,355 hate crimes in 2024, reaching record highs across multiple protected groups. The county experienced record-high incidents targeting African Americans, Jewish people, Latino/as, LGBTQ+ individuals, Middle Easterners, Muslims, Scientologists, and women. Transgender people faced 102 anti-trans hate crimes, 95 percent of which were violent, the highest number since tracking began in 1980. Crimes against nonbinary people rose 275 percent, from four to 15 incidents after tracking began in 2023. Separate data indicate nearly 59 percent of trans adults in California recently experienced violence or harassment, and 7 percent reported one or more physical attacks in the past year. County officials pledged strengthened partnerships with schools, community organizations, and survivors to confront hate and improve safety.
