Aimee Lou Wood, known for her role in 'The White Lotus', strongly criticized the UK Supreme Court's ruling which determined that the legal definition of 'woman' under the Equality Act 2010 pertains strictly to biological sex, consequently excluding trans women. This decision, made on April 16, 2023, sparked widespread condemnation as it threatens the rights and recognition of trans and non-binary individuals. While the ruling emphasized that transgender individuals still have legal protections against discrimination, many, including Wood, view the exclusion as unjust and harmful to the LGBTQ+ community.
"Pure rage," she began atop a re-shared post by activist and Outrage author Ellen Jones. "This country is a hellhole."
"The unanimous decision of this court is that the terms woman and sex in the Equality Act 2010 refer to a biological woman and biological sex," Supreme Court judge Lord Hodge said.
Jones' original post read: "The UK Supreme Court unanimously decided that the definition of sex under the Equality Act 2010 refers solely to biological sex..."..
"...the Equality Act 2010 gives transgender people protection, not only against discrimination...in their acquired gender".
