Mayor Pro Tem Joe Pradetto proposed halting the city's recognition of LGBTQ+ Pride, rescinding the 2024 resolution, discontinuing Pride banners each November, and amending a 2018 diversity and inclusion resolution. The council called a special meeting and received more than 60 written comments before the vote. Many attendees said they felt welcome in Palm Desert until the proposal and described the suggested changes as harmful. Residents testified about feeling unwelcome and cited mental-health risks for LGBTQ+ youth connected to censoring celebratory signs. The council voted 4-1 to maintain current policies, with Pradetto opposed.
