"Built in 1926, the 14,000-square-foot house on 1.5 acres, with a private drive, was owned in the '30s by Herbert T. Kalmus, the developer of Technicolor. Kalmus built a reception area and theater, where he entertained celebrities of the day. When the Tuscan-style villa was restored in 1990, the theater was turned into a 1,500-square-foot ballroom-theater with a marble floor and a drop-down screen and projection system."
Priscilla Presley sold three acres of Montecito property featuring a guest house to actress Victoria Principal for about $3 million. Presley had initially planned to build on the site but changed her mind. Principal, known for roles in Dallas and guest appearances on Providence, is also an author of self-help books and television producer. In a separate transaction, Verna Harrah, widow of casino magnate William F. Harrah, purchased a Bel-Air estate built in 1926 for approximately $8 million. The 14,000-square-foot Tuscan-style villa, formerly owned by Technicolor developer Herbert T. Kalmus, features eight bedrooms, eleven bathrooms, a theater converted to a ballroom, and gardens designed by renowned landscape architect Emmet Wemple.
