"The compound had its star turn in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The exterior of the main house was used as a scene setter for the TV series "Hart to Hart" starring Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers."
"Powell, who died in 1963 at 58, got his start in musicals as a youth. He went on to leading man roles in such films as "Murder, My Sweet" (1944) and "Pitfall" (1948), worked in radio and was a founder of the Four Star Television production company."
Amber Hills, a 48-acre Brentwood compound once owned by film stars Dick Powell and June Allyson, sold at auction for $14.6 million, with the buyer paying 10% above the asking price. The estate features a 12,000-square-foot main house, guest houses, a lake, tennis court, and other amenities, with views of the Santa Monica Mountains and ocean. The property gained television fame in the late 1970s and early 1980s when its exterior was featured in the TV series "Hart to Hart." Most recently owned by philanthropist Glorya Kaufman, widow of Donald Kaufman, co-founder of KB Home, the property was sold through Concierge Auctions in conjunction with Hilton & Hyland/Christie's International Real Estate and Keller Williams.
