New twist to Joganis' billion-dollar real estate feud
"The first legal brawl ended with Haresh being ordered to pay Rajesh and Chetan a combined $1.5 billion in punitive damages. Rajesh and Chetan also were awarded punitive damages and a 10 percent and six and a half percent stake, respectively, in the multifamily real estate portfolio that was at the center of the case. A total of five Jogani brothers came to Los Angeles from India, and eventually amassed a fortune in real estate and diamonds."
"The latest complaint claims Jeet Jogani and Dhwani Jogani Haresh's children and the nephew and niece of Rajesh and Chetan together received $225 million looted from three real estate entities. The case contends that all brothers own the businesses. The two plaintiffs contend that a court-appointed receiver gave Haresh unfettered control over the businesses for a period of time, leading to illegitimate payments to his children."
Rajesh and Chetan Jogani filed a $775 million lawsuit alleging that their niece and nephew were paid hundreds of millions in fraudulent fees, salaries and bonuses by their father, brother Haresh Jogani. Haresh was previously ordered in 2024 to pay Rajesh, Chetan and other brothers to settle a two-decade dispute over roughly 17,000 apartment units; the underlying payout verdict was valued at about $10 billion. The earlier case resulted in $1.5 billion in punitive damages against Haresh and equity stakes awarded to Rajesh and Chetan. The new complaint alleges Haresh used control of partnership companies to siphon assets to his children, including $225 million from three real estate entities, while a receiver allegedly granted him unfettered control.
