New concourses at Reno-Tahoe International Airport set to open by 2029
"The current concourses, built in the early 1980s, have served our community well, but they were designed for a different era - one with smaller aircraft and fewer passengers. As travel has evolved, these once sophisticated spaces have become crowded and outdated."
"The new project includes the reconstruction of all gates, improved concessions and restrooms, larger holding rooms with natural light, upgraded technology and signage, and dual taxiways on the airfield to improve turnaround times. Aesthetically, designers are crafting the airport to create a modern mountain aesthetic with expansive views of the surrounding Sierra Nevada."
"This milestone means every project in our MoreRNO Infrastructure Program is now either complete or actively in progress. The airport authority anticipates that Concourse A will open in 2028 and that Concourse B will open in 2029."
Reno-Tahoe International Airport, the closest commercial airport to Lake Tahoe, is executing a comprehensive $1 billion modernization initiative called MoreRNO. The project includes a $650 million reconstruction of Concourses A and B, with Concourse A opening in 2028 and Concourse B in 2029. The original concourses, built in the early 1980s, have become outdated and overcrowded. New features include reconstructed gates, improved concessions and restrooms, larger holding areas with natural light, upgraded technology, dual taxiways, and modern mountain-inspired architecture with Sierra Nevada views. Previous completed projects include a $32 million ticketing hall expansion and a $14.4 million Loop Road upgrade. Additional ongoing projects include a $76 million Police & Airport Authority Headquarters and a $299 million Ground Transportation Center.
