Reba McEntire reflects on her journey from Oklahoma to Nashville, citing career opportunities that prompted her move in 1988. She infused her new Nashville home with personal mementos, notably a mounted steer head from her Oklahoma ranch named Old Henry, which she greets every morning. Additionally, she cherishes southern hospitality, demonstrating its importance through her welcoming attitude towards guests. This hospitality and her connection to her roots deeply influence her life and work, including her recent book featuring Old Henry.
I came here in 1988 after a divorce...when it was time to leave Oklahoma, I went to Nashville because of work.
In my home here in Nashville, I have the lead steer from our ranch in Oklahoma on the wall...And I walk into the living room every morning, I look up, and I say 'Hello, Henry!' Every morning.
When people come see me, the first thing I say is: 'Are you hungry? Would you like something to drink? When was the last time you ate?'
Such is the significance of Henry's presence in McEntire's life that he even featured prominently in the shoot for her October 2023 book.
