"I am deeply saddened to learn of Elden Campbell's passing,"
"... Most of all, Elden was an outstanding, giving person. This is a sad day for the Clemson family. Elden loved Clemson, he came back and supported the program after he retired. He exemplified what Clemson was all about."
Elden Campbell died Tuesday at age 57. He finished his Clemson career with 1,880 points to remain the school's all-time leading scorer and ranks second in career blocks (334) and eighth in rebounds (836). Campbell played at Clemson from 1986 to 1990, earned three All-ACC selections, and appeared in three NCAA tournaments, including a senior season that produced the program's only regular-season ACC title and a Sweet 16 loss to UConn on a buzzer-beater. Drafted in the first round by the Lakers in 1990, Campbell played 15 NBA seasons for Los Angeles, Charlotte, Seattle, New Jersey and Detroit, won a championship with the Pistons in 2003-04, and averaged 10.3 points and 5.9 rebounds over 1,044 career games.
