Top Japanese Free Agent, Hoping to Take Down Dodgers, Signs With Astros
""Of course, I'd enjoy playing alongside Ohtani, Yamamoto, and Sasaki," Imai told the former Major League pitcher and two-time World Baseball Classic champion, "but winning against a team like that and becoming a world champion would be the most valuable thing in my life. If anything, I'd rather take them down.""
""With the number of pitchers they already have, they don't need me," Imai said."
The Houston Astros signed top Japanese free agent Tatsuya Imai to a three-year deal after his NPB team posted him following the Los Angeles Dodgers' World Series title. Imai said on Hodo Station that he was prepared to join a Major League team capable of taking down the Dodgers dynasty. He said he would enjoy playing alongside Ohtani, Yamamoto, and Sasaki but that winning against a team like the Dodgers and becoming a world champion would be most valuable to him. Imai also stated the Dodgers already have many pitchers and do not need him.
