Los Angeles Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani is reportedly poised to return to pitching but the team is taking a cautious approach, focusing on ensuring he's in top shape for the postseason. Manager Dave Roberts confirmed a collective decision for this strategy. Despite current challenges such as Blake Snell's injury, the Dodgers possess significant pitching depth, allowing a more measured return for Ohtani. The team is considering a six-man rotation while reinforcements like Clayton Kershaw and additional pitchers from the minors are also on the horizon, adding to their solid starting roster.
"It was a collective decision and I think he understands that the goal is to make sure he's firing on all cylinders towards the end of the season and into October," Roberts said.
"We're in lock step. So I don't think there's any sort of angst or anxiety or frustration for Shohei in that sense at all."
The Dodgers' priority for Ohtani is to be ready to pitch in the postseason, not to rush his return before the All-Star Break.
Although Blake Snell is currently on the injured list, the Dodgers don't exactly need Ohtani given the plethora of pitching depth.
