The Cincinnati Reds are bringing lefty reliever Joe La Sorsa onto their 40-man roster, having recently gained an open spot due to a trade. Although he will be optioned back to Triple-A Louisville, La Sorsa triggered an upward mobility clause that required the team to gauge interest from others in acquiring him. Despite a history of average performance in the majors, his improved velocity in Triple-A has caught the Reds' attention, though results have not yet matched his enhanced pitching metrics.
La Sorsa's sinker is sitting closer to 92 MPH, while he has pushed his sweeping slider from the mid-70s to north of 78 MPH on average.
The uptick in stuff intrigued the Reds and presumably at least one other team, but it hasn't resulted in improved results.
