Max Muncy of the Los Angeles Dodgers made headlines after the team's victory over the Chicago Cubs in the Tokyo Series, becoming just the fourth MLB player to hit in at least five different countries. Muncy expressed gratitude for his opportunities with the Dodgers and reflected on the importance of embracing diverse cultures through baseball. The historic achievement emphasizes the sportâs international expansion and Muncy acknowledged a growing awareness of his milestone just before the match, celebrating the uniqueness of baseball's global presence.
Muncy had been made somewhat aware of the potential that lied in front of him with the Dodgers playing in Japan after their Opening Day game and didn't focus on it but could appreciate the uniqueness. "I did, but I didn't," Muncy answered when asked if he knew about the stat. "I went on a podcast last night and they were talking about it. That was the only reason I knew about it... I was like, 'This is pretty cool.'"
To me, that's just a blessing. I'm very thankful I get to be a part of these events that we've been doing... It's just a blessing to be able to do that. You're talking about trying to grow the game of baseball, experiencing different cultures, it's just really cool to be able to do it.
