Matt Sauer replaces Paul Gervase on Dodgers' roster

The Dodgers recalled Matt Sauer and optioned Paul Gervase to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Gervase made his Dodger debut with two scoreless-ish innings, allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts. He was acquired July 31 from the Tampa Bay Rays in a three-team trade and appeared in five games for the Rays this season. Gervase has strong Minor League numbers: 33 games, 49 innings, 2.94 ERA, 72 strikeouts and 13 walks, and has excelled with OKC. Sauer returns for a fifth stint as a durable innings-eater, with 27.2 innings, 22 strikeouts and a 6.18 ERA this season.
Overall in the Minors this year, Gervase has pitched in 33 games, tossing 49 innings with a 2.94 ERA and 72 strikeouts to just 13 walks. With OKC, he's appeared in five games, posting a 2.08 ERA across 8.2 innings with nine strikeouts to one walk. In four Minor League seasons, Gervase is 13-8 with a 2.93 ERA and 261 strikeouts in 162.1 innings.
Sauer returns for his fifth stint with the Dodgers after last being optioned on June 18. He is 2-1 with 6.18 ERA in nine games, but he's tossed 27.2 innings. Sauer has struck out 22 hitters and walked eight. Sauer was on the Dodgers' travel roster for the Tokyo Series and has become an innings-eater for the team when called upon.
