"I don't want to delay my rehab. I just want to go and experience it and be with the guys. I feel like even though I'm not part of it, I can still be one of the leaders of that group. Unfortunately, I can't be there for the whole tournament, but if I can be there for even two games and be part of it in Puerto Rico in some capacity, that would be pretty cool for me."
"These are our Olympics. This is the World Cup of baseball. Everybody from Puerto Rico wants to be a part of this."
Kiké Hernández signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers for his 10th season but faces an extended recovery from left shoulder surgery, keeping him sidelined until mid-2026. Unable to compete, he declined participation in the World Baseball Classic, a tournament he played in during the previous two cycles. Despite not playing, Hernández remains committed to supporting Puerto Rico's quest for its first WBC title by attending games at home and maintaining team traditions like bleaching his hair blonde. He also helped recruit Nolan Arenado to the Puerto Rico roster. The Dodgers maintain representation through new closer Edwin Díaz, who recently signed a three-year contract.
