Freddie Freeman, emotionally recounting his son's health struggles, received support from Officer Samuel Riveros during a critical moment in his family’s life. Riveros's tragic death while serving in the line of duty highlighted his dedication, both to the community and to the Dodgers. Chelsea Freeman honored Riveros’s memory, reflecting on his thoughtful gesture of giving a police patch to their son Max during the playoff series. Freeman continues to thrive in his career, having recently achieved World Series success with the Dodgers and maintaining a leading batting average in the current season.
Our hearts are heavy hearing of his passing this week. We met during the Dodgers/Mets playoffs. He came up to me, asked how my son Max was doing and handed me his police patch to give to him. A small gesture that meant so much.
Samuel Riveros had been a Baldwin Park officer since 2016, joined the agency's SWAT team in 2019, and had recently become a field training officer, a testament to his leadership and mentorship.
