Dodgers sign infielder to spring training roster
"The Brewers drafted Hiura with the ninth overall pick in the 2017 MLB Amateur Draft and powered him through the minor leagues. He made his debut for Milwaukee in 2019, and he had a solid 84-game season. He hit 19 homers and drove in 49 runs while keeping a .938 OPS. His numbers took a stark drop in the shortened 2020 season, though, as he led the league with 85 strikeouts and saw his batting average fall to .212 from .303."
"Hiura continued to struggled into 2021, where he played just 61 games and had a .557 OPS. He managed a solid 2022, though, hitting 13% above league average and hitting 14 homers in 80 games. He spent the entirety of the following season in the minor leagues, where he struggled with injury, before electing free agency in the offseason. The Detroit Tigers picked him up in 2024, but he played exclusively for their Triple-A club before they released him in July."
Los Angeles signed infielder Keston Hiura to a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to the Dodgers' MLB spring-training camp. The Dodgers begin full-squad workouts Feb. 19 at Camelback Ranch and recently extended Max Muncy, re-signed utilityman Kiké Hernández and acquired reliever Anthony Banda. Hiura, 29, has parts of six major-league seasons with Milwaukee, Los Angeles and Colorado and can play second and first base, offering depth behind Tommy Edman and Freddie Freeman. Drafted ninth overall in 2017, Hiura debuted in 2019 with 19 homers, a .938 OPS and 49 RBIs. He then regressed in 2020 and 2021, rebounded in 2022, and spent time in Triple-A before bouncing among organizations in 2024–25.
