CJ Alexander was claimed by the Los Angeles Dodgers off waivers from the New York Yankees. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers designated Steward Berroa for assignment. Berroa had recently joined the Dodgers organization in a trade from the Blue Jays, performing well at Triple-A Oklahoma City with a .330 batting average and notable speed. Alexander previously played for the Athletics and the Yankees and could provide depth for the Dodgers, especially at third base.
Berroa joined the Dodgers organization on May 12 in a trade that sent cash considerations to the Toronto Blue Jays. The deal was completed five days after the Blue Jays DFA'd Berroa.
Berroa's best asset is his speed, as he's stolen more than 40 bases in six different Minor League seasons. Berroa had a career-high 58 stolen bases in 2021.
Upon being acquired by the Dodgers, Berroa reported to Triple-A Oklahoma City. He batted .330/.424/.433 with seven doubles, one home run and 11 RBI over 27 games with the Comets.
Alexander began the 2025 season with the Athletics but was designated for assignment as part of a series of roster moves in early June.
