Dodgers notes: Max Muncy, Sam Horn, offensive slump
Briefly

Max Muncy returned to the injured list after a recurring oblique muscle flare-up following a knee injury that had cost him a short absence. The oblique previously sidelined him for three months last season along with a rib issue, but the current problem involves only the muscle. No timetable is set for his return. Muncy said this episode felt different and that medical checks of previously problematic areas looked fine, with recovery possibly taking days or weeks. Separately, Sam Horn was drafted by the Dodgers while balancing pro baseball prospects with competing for Missouri's quarterback role, and the Dodgers lead the National League in home runs and OPS despite a middling offensive stretch since June.
Muncy was fortunate to only miss a month of time, but the same oblique that kept him out of action for three months of the last year flared up again, prompting a return to the injured list. The timetable isn't set for Muncy's return, but he spoke with David Vassegh of SportsNet LA prior to Wednesday's game and discussed the severity of his injury. Part of Muncy's absence last season was due to a rib injury as well, whereas this time around, it's simply the muscle. "This one felt different from last year. Thankfully we went through what we went through last year. We immediately checked all the things that got me back last year and everything felt like it was in a good spot... Sometimes, it's a couple of days. Sometimes, it's a couple of weeks."
Sam Horn was selected by the Dodgers in the 17th round of this year's MLB draft. He is also fighting for the no. 1 quarterback spot at the University of Missouri as well. Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times writes about Horn's journey from dealing with Tommy John surgery in college to being selected by the Dodgers, while also discussing the challenges he faces with attempting to balance pro baseball with college football. The Dodgers as a team have the most home runs and the highest OPS as a team in the National League, both ranking only second behind the New York Yankees.
