Dodgers News: Tommy Edman Starting The Season On Injured List
"Tommy Edman was limited to just 97 games for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2025 due to a recurring right ankle injury. Edman underwent a debridement procedure and ligament repair in the offseason and has been recovering since. The expectation was that Edman would miss the start of the season, but he held out hope of being on the roster. However, the Dodgers have now officially ruled out Edman for Opening Day, as manager Dave Roberts said the utilityman will begin the year on the injured list, via Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic:"
""If it comes around to that time and my ankle is 90%, not quite where I need it to be, I'm going to do my best to be patient with it and get it back to 100% and not deal with it for the rest of the year," Edman said at DodgerFest."
"Edman primarily played second base in 2026 due to the health of his ankle, and Andy Pages took hold of center field. Edman shouldn't expect to play much outfield this season, even when healthy, due to the group the Dodgers have in place. When Edman is fully healthy, he will likely start at second base nearly full-time, but for now, Miguel Rojas is likely to receive the majority of opportunities. Hyeseong Kim or Alex Freeland could also play a role to platoon or give Rojas days off, and the Dodgers could be in the market for an additional backup infielder after losing Andy Ibáñez on waivers."
Tommy Edman played only 97 games in 2025 because of a recurring right ankle injury and underwent debridement and ligament repair in the offseason. The recovery delayed his spring availability and the Dodgers ruled him out for Opening Day, placing him on the injured list. Edman expressed hope to make the roster but prioritized long-term health and pledged patience until his ankle reached 100 percent. He tied a career high with 13 home runs and finished with 49 RBI last season. He primarily played second base while Andy Pages took center field, and Miguel Rojas is expected to receive most early opportunities at second base with Hyeseong Kim or Alex Freeland as possible platoon options; the team may seek an additional backup infielder after losing Andy Ibáñez on waivers.
