Dodgers' Miguel Rojas announces he will miss World Baseball Classic due to insurance issues
""I am very sad today," Rojas wrote in a caption translate from Spanish to English. "It's a real shame not to be able to represent my country and wear that flag on my chest. "On this occasion, age was not just a number.""
"Miguel Rojas no estará en el equipo de Venezuela para el Clásico Mundial. No le fue aprobado el seguro médico, dado el historial de lesiones y la edad. Tendrá 37 años al comienzo del torneo. pic.twitter.com/bpZzwTN4Ir- Daniel Álvarez-Montes (@DanielAlvarezEE) January 29, 2026"
"Without Rojas in the lineup, Team Venezuela will be missing a solid utility infielder with a league-average bat and a phenomenal glove. Over the past two seasons, Rojas has managed a .732 OPS through 217 games and has accrued 5.5 bWAR across those appearances. He doesn't hit for power often, but still managed a slugging percentage over .404 over the last two seasons. As far as his glove goes, Rojas has ranked in the top 20 percent of fielders in each of the last two seasons. In 2025, his plus-9 defensive run value placed him in the top 10 percent of MLB and his 12 outs above average ranked in the top three percent."
Miguel Rojas announced via his Instagram story that he will not play for Team Venezuela in the 2026 World Baseball Classic after his medical insurance was denied. The insurance rejection was attributed to his injury history and his age; he will be 37 at the start of the tournament. Rojas missed the 2023 WBC after withdrawing to remain with the Dodgers' camp in Arizona following Gavin Lux's ACL tear and has never appeared in a WBC. Jose Altuve also had his insurance rejected earlier the same week. Without Rojas, Venezuela loses a versatile infielder with a .732 OPS, 5.5 bWAR, and top-tier defensive metrics, leaving the team to find replacements.
