Shohei Ohtani is on track to return to pitching for the Los Angeles Dodgers, having faced live hitters multiple times recently. Dodgers pitching coach Mark Prior discussed the careful progression Ohtani requires, indicating readiness for a game comes with increased pitch volume. Ohtani's debut is anticipated for late July or early August, with the team needing him to contribute despite their challenges with injuries. Manager Dave Roberts emphasized that even limited innings from Ohtani would be beneficial to the strained pitching staff, which currently has numerous players on the injured list.
"You start getting close to 44, you start getting into the 60- and 70-pitch range, then you can start envisioning and dreaming about being in a game," Prior said.
"It certainly doesn't have to be a full buildup, because anything that he can give us is certainly additive," Roberts said.
