Dodgers manager reveals reason for sending Ben Casparius to Oklahoma City
"It was tough. Ben has done a lot of nice things for us, he really has. And he's still a big part of what we're doing this year,"
"We just felt that obviously getting Alex back, it was a tough decision, but getting Ben back to dominating right-handed hitters is something that we felt if we can give him a chance to catch his breath, get to OKC and get back to that, he'll be more helpful for us the rest of the year and potentially the postseason."
Alex Vesia returned from the 15-day injured list after a right oblique strain and was activated by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ben Casparius was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City as the corresponding roster move. Vesia's recovery matched expectations he expressed when first placed on the IL. Michael Kopech was also activated this month as the extra September reliever. The Dodgers chose optionable relievers over releasing others, evaluating Casparius, Jack Dreyer, Edgardo Henriquez and Justin Wrobleski. Casparius struggled after shifting into the rotation and back to the bullpen; the team hopes time at OKC will help him regain effectiveness, especially against right-handed hitters, for the remainder of the year and postseason.
