Dodgers' Dalton Rushing to play 2 primary positions in 2026
""I've really planned to play any position they ask," Rushing said at DodgerFest on Saturday. "Whether I've played it before or I haven't, just - like I said - take advantage of every opportunity. I know catching, first base are going to be the main two.""
""I haven't talked to Dalton," Roberts said. "I just don't see a world in which "
Dalton Rushing confirmed plans to play both catcher and first base for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2026. He served as a backup to All-Star Will Smith in 2025, appearing in 53 games with a .204 batting average, a .582 OPS, four home runs and 24 RBIs. Rushing briefly had a chance to start when Smith sat with a bone bruise but then suffered a knee injury from a foul ball. Rushing has significant first-base experience in the minors (305 innings, .977 fielding percentage) and showed perfect fielding in 28 first-base innings for the Dodgers in 2025. He also has experience in left field. The Dodgers have discussed him in trade talks but appear unlikely to move him.
