Shohei Ohtani hit his 27th home run of the year, marking the 300th of his professional career across NPB and MLB. Having slugged 205 homers since 2021, he remains one of the most potent power hitters in baseball. Although he participated once in the Home Run Derby in 2021, he has yet to confirm another appearance, especially for the 2025 event. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts noted that any decision regarding Ohtani's participation will depend on Ohtani himself.
Ohtani last participated in the 2021 Home Run Derby as a member of the Angels. He lost to Juan Soto, who was with the Washington Nationals at the time.
Despite falling short, Ohtani became the first Japanese-born player to participate in the Home Run Derby, and the first to also pitch in the All-Star Game the following day.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was asked about Ohtani possibly participating in the Home Run Derby at Truist Park, but said he'll defer that to the two-way slugger.
Ohtani has only participated in the Home Run Derby once, yet he's on pace for another 50-home run season, showcasing his incredible power.
