The U.S. Postal Service's recent report highlights Los Angeles as the city with the highest dog attacks on mail carriers, with 77 reported incidents last year. California ranks No. 1 among states with 701 total attacks. This trend contributes to a nationwide increase in dog bites, rising from 5,300 in 2022 to over 6,000 in 2024. The Postal Service urges dog owners to manage their pets during deliveries to prevent attacks and advises using alerts for delivery timing to avoid surprises that may trigger aggressive behavior.
"Dogs may attack not only to defend their territory, but also when they feel startled, anxious or unwell," the Postal Service stated in a news release.
"It's not just about bad or aggressive dogs - it's about unpredictable moments," the Postal Service warns, emphasizing the complexities of canine behavior.
