Both Will Smith and Dalton Rushing landed on the injured list in September, creating a catching crisis for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers called up Ben Rortvedt from Triple-A on Sept. 4 after acquiring him at the trade deadline in a three-team deal that sent Hunter Feduccia away and added Adam Serwinowski and Paul Gervase. Rortvedt batted .224 in September with one home run and three of his four season RBIs. He hit .429 with an OPS north of 1.000 in the first four postseason games. After the World Series, Cincinnati claimed Rortvedt off waivers. Rortvedt thanked fans for their support.
